Meet “Emma” the mold hound. Emma, a soon to be one year old chocolate Lab, is the new dog on the beat. If you happen to be out on the roads in Brevard County and notice a white truck with a picture of “Emma” the mold hound, most likely she has completed another successful mission.
With 100,000 species of mold out there, one of your most valuable assets, your home, can be a hiding toxic mold in places you cannot see. A 1999 Mayo Clinic study showed that nearly all chronic sinus infections, affecting 37 million Americans, can be attributed to mold.
After spending over 6 months training to detect toxic molds, Emma is now one of only a few dozen certified mold dogs in the USA. With her super sensitive nose, she is able to smell mold in parts per trillion. The human nose can smell parts per hundred. Together with her certified handler Randy, homes are carefully “sniffed out” to find possible toxic mold.
How is this done? Simple, Emma alerts to MVOC’s (microbial volatile organic compounds.) These gases are released by mold and picked up by Emma’s sensitive nose. She has been trained
to detect the source and hopefully save some of the 37 million sufferers, including your children!
